The Town of Algoma’s population is projected to grow by 40% by the year 2040. Where are these people going to live? What types of housing will be needed for these new residents and their changing needs? How many more cars will be traveling on the local roads? Will there be a need to work with neighboring communities on alternative transportation options? What new businesses will be created or needed as a result of the population increase and changing demographics? What does this development mean in terms of overall land use changes, the need for municipal services, and demand for parks, trails and other amenities?
To help address and answer these questions, the Town of Algoma has hired the East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (www.ecwrpc.org) to update its 20-year Comprehensive Plan that was adopted in 2007. When completed and adopted in November 2020, this document will help the Town of Algoma better plan for future growth and development out to the year 2040. As part of the process, each of the following nine plan elements will be reviewed and updated: issues and opportunities; housing; transportation; utilities and community facilities; agricultural, natural and cultural resources; economic development; intergovernmental cooperation; land use: and implementation. An updated “Future Land Use Map” will be prepared that will be used as a guide by the Town’s Planning Commission when addressing matters, such as rezonings, new subdivisions, road improvements, expanded amenities, and additional park and recreational opportunities, etc.
This planning process is reliant on input and ideas from Town residents. All materials drafted during the planning process and other sources of information will be posted on this webpage for public review and comment. Please check back often to review any new materials. If you have any thoughts or ideas about the future of the Town and what this Plan Update should address, please share them with Richard Heath, Town Administrator at email@example.com.
