The heavy rains this past Wednesday evening and in to early Thursday, brought localized flooding to several areas of the Town. Clairville, Sheldon, Welsh Haven, and Snowdon experienced the greatest flooding. On the east side of Snowdon, the primary reason for the flooding was a ditch full of cattails that plugged the end of the culvert and would not allow the water to flow south to Omro Road. Water overflowed the roadway causing access and safety issues for area residents. We encourage all homeowners to maintain their ditches to avoid any future flooding. With the flat topography, there is not much grade to allow the water to flow. Any impediments like cattails and debris will cause the water to sit and backup in the ditches.
